New SCS Honorary Members elected
Dr Emma Meredith (CTPA) and Dr Tony Gough (Innospec) were both elected as SCS Honorary Members at the 2022 SCS AGM on Thursday 26 May in recognition of their services to the Society.
Emma became a member of the SCS in 2003, shortly after joining the industry, undertaking several active roles within the Society, including member and subsequent Chair of the Scientific Programme Committee, Co-chair and Chair of the SCS Formulate Working Group, member of the Wales & West Regional Development Group, member of the Scrub Up On Science Working Group and a judge for the Laura Marshall Award for Innovation. She was a Council member from 2007-2010 before becoming Honorary Secretary and then President in 2014-2015. Emma is a member of the IFSCC 2022 Congress Scientific Committee.
Speaking at the AGM, Emma said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be made an Honorary Member of the SCS – although extremely surprised! My thanks to the SCS for the nomination and to all who voted on the proposal. The SCS is incredibly important to me and has been a big part of my life in the cosmetics industry. I have learned so much and made so many friends through my membership. I would recommend all members to take advantage of the many SCS opportunities, and I would urge all employers to support any members in their SCS activities. Thank you again SCS, I am incredibly honoured.”
Tony has served on Council for 9 years, was Honorary Treasurer from 2007-2011, President in 2012-2013, paper reviewer for the International Journal in Cosmetic Science (IJCS) from 1999-present and Chair of the IJCS Committee from 2005-2009. He has also been a member of the IFSCC Praesidium from 2015-present, was IFSCC Honorary Treasurer from 2015-2018 and is on the Presidential track to become IFSCC President in 2022. Tony is on the organising committee for the IFSCC 2022 Congress. He was also SCS delegate for the IFSCC Congress awards committees in 2008, 2010 and 2012, External examiner for the SCS Diploma in Cosmetic Science from 2006-to 2010 under De Montfort University and External Examiner for the Diploma from 2010-2016.
Tony was away representing the UK Society at the IFSCC Praesidium spring meeting so was unfortunately unable to attend this year’s SCS AGM. He said: “I’m thrilled, honoured and proud to have been elected as an Honorary Member of the Society of Cosmetic Scientists (UK & Ireland). I wish to thank all my fellow SCS members and the SCS Secretariat (especially Gem Bektas) whom I have worked with over the years for their great team spirit and great contribution to the SCS, and for making the work we have done together so enjoyable and rewarding.”
Huge thanks to Emma and Tony for the incredible support they have given and continue to give to the Society.
