Scientific Suicide? Adventures in quantum olfaction

Simon Gane (Academic Clinical Fellow in ENT Surgery, North Thames Region)

Luca Turin's posited inelastic electron tunneling mechanism for odorant recognition is still controversial, so much so that it has been called "scientific suicide" to support or investigate it. Mr Gane will give an overview of the current state of olfaction science, the physiology, anatomy and physics,  as well as reviewing the evidence for the "quantum olfaction" theory.

Venue: Royal Society of Chemistry, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London W1J 0BA

Commencing 19.00 hours with light refreshments from 18.30 hours
