When it comes to communicating complex and technical research and product ideas or data, it can feel difficult to turn the tangled web of findings, details and careful caveats into a coherent, linear narrative that lands.
That’ s where storytelling comes in.

Developed by Dr Anna Ploszajski over a decade spent as an academic researcher and storyteller of science, The Science of Storytelling is a practical and creative course that will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to be the one who tells it best.

In this IN PERSON workshop, you ’ll be introduced to the Storytelling Toolbox, which will help you identify the different elements of story in your work, as well as reframe projects, products and people as stories. It includes things like; story shape, narrative thread and tension, world-building, characterisation, stakes and conflict, the importance of change, and purposeful resolutions.
We’ll also cover how to understand the diversity of audiences you ’ll encounter, in order to create meaning, memories and connections with them using an audience-centred approach. And, you ’ll leave the workshop feeling confident to extend these skills to other areas of working life, be that job interviews, presentations, or writing reports.  This is a workshop for technical researchers, product developers and marketing professionals managing technical data in the cosmetic sciences and adjacent industries.

About the Trainer:

Dr Anna Ploszajski is a materials scientist, storyteller, author, podcaster, speaker, presenter, trainer, trumpeter, English Channel swimmer, feminist, knitter, walker and border collie dog mum, originally from Bedford, now settled in Walthamstow, East London. She fronts the award-winning industry podcasts, such as Things You Can ’t Live Without. It’ s her professional mission to engage underserved communities with science and engineering through storytelling; her debut popular science book, Handmade: A Scientist’ s Search for Meaning Through Making was published by Bloomsbury Sigma in 2021.

Having developed her own unique blend of autobiographical science writing, she founded Storyology Ltd. to train scientists, engineers, researchers and techy people in storytelling to help them communicate what they do better.
