Tony Naylor Bursary IFSCC Congress
The fund has been set up to assist SCS members who are students, consultants, from small companies, or from academia, who have had abstracts accepted for a platform or poster presentation at an IFSCC Congress. The SCS may provide financial assistance to help individuals attend a future Congress, subject to the selection criteria being met.
Abstracts need to be submitted via the IFSCC Congress website each year and Bursary applications are made once an abstract has been submitted. There is no need to wait for acceptance of the abstract before applying but the Bursary will only be considered once acceptance has been confirmed.
The Tony Naylor Bursary Fund Committee will decide who will receive funding to attend the Congress and their decision will be final. The author receiving funding must be the first author and must be the person who will be present to make the podium or poster presentation. The Bursary Fund is limited to a maximum of three awards to the same author within a 7 year period.

IFSCC 2019 – Bursary Winner
Congratulations to Dilek Guneri from the UCL School of Pharmacy, who won the 2019 SCS Bursary. Dilek won with her paper Humidity-dependent Ex vivo corneocyte maturation and the importance of transglutaminase activity, co-authored by DSM’s Ranieri Voegeli, UCL’s C Zhang, A Bankousli, M Munday and Majella Lane, and Tony Rawlings. The study highlights the impact of relative humidity with special focus on the roles of TG activity in CE maturation. It also suggests that skin care products should consider the negative effect of overhydration and the beneficial impact of proteases into their formulations. Dilek presented her findings at the 2019 IFSCC Conference in Milan, Italy (30 September – 2 October) and the SCS Bursary covered the cost of her travel, accommodation and registration.
IFSCC 2018 – Bursary Winner
Our 2018 winner was Rachael Polowyj who took her paper to the Congress in Berlin, Germany from 18-21 September 2018.
Rachael’s winning paper, Exploring the effect of rheological modifiers and preservatives on the in vitro release of caffeine from gel formulations, was presented as a poster at the Congress. The paper is co-authored by Danka Tamburic and Milica Stevic.
Rachael graduated in 2017 from the London College of Fashion with an MSc in Cosmetic Science and now works with IMCD.
IFSCC 2017 – Bursary Winner
The theme for the 2017 IFSCC Conference in Seoul, Korea was Cosmetic Science: Beauty, Convergence & Creativity.
Congratulations to Dr. Milica Stevic (Post-doctoral Fellow in Cosmetic Science, University of the Arts, London) whose poster Fabrication of personalised lipstick applicator using 3D printing technology won her the 2017 SCS Bursary and helped fund her trip to Seoul.
